Since being purchased by the Crouch family in 1990, Waverley Station has grown to become one of the top Angus cattle breeders in Australia.
Waverley Station at Scone was once part of the well-known Belltrees property, which spanned an enormous 150,000 acres. Over time, Waverley Station was separated from Belltrees and when our family purchased the property in 1990, it was just 1,200 acres in size.
With good foresight, a decision was made to establish an Angus cattle herd, sourcing the best genetics available at the time from studs such as Hazeldean, Te-Mania and Ardrossan. The varied landscape at Gundy, with its rich river plains along the Isis River and sheltered mountain range, allowed the herd to flourish.
By 2002, Australia was experiencing one of the driest periods on record. We decided to head south and secure land on King Island where rainfall is frequent, securing the future of the herd and restoring the bloodlines.
Waverley Station now encompasses around 60,000 acres between Scone (where the nucleus of the herd reside) and King Island and we run a herd of approximately 30,000 Angus cattle – allowing us to be a major supplier into the domestic and international markets.
